TSUNAMI
I was deliberately avoiding news during Christmas and Boxing Day. So I only heard about the earthquake and tidal waves late last night, after friends and relatives called from Canada to make sure everything here was okay. It is, we didn't even notice any tremors.
We do have a friend traveling in Madras whom we have not yet heard from, although I'm confident that that she's fine.
Malaysian blogger Jeff Ooi has been offering the best news roundups of the event. He, and other bloggers, have also recommended donating to the Red Cross. I have and I encourage everyone else to do so.
As of now, there are at least 13,000 confirmed dead and thousands still missing. The homeless and injured could number in the millions. This is a massive disaster and they are one of the only organizations that I can think of that has the global reach needed to determine the areas in the most immediate need of assistance.
(UPDATE: Nitin has a more expansive list of aid agencies at the Acorn.)
