DEMOCRACY
For the past few weeks, there has been 'intense' 'speculation' in the local 'press' that Singapore will have a general election in early 2005.
I usually get excited by elections. However, I was here for the last one and it was about as exciting as watching paint dry. I really don't know why that is. I am a political junkie, I should be a little charged up by these things. Perhaps the next one will be more exciting.
But, then again, probably not:
Lee seen leading Singapore until 2020
SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will likely lead Singapore for 10-15 years, about as long as his predecessor's term but half of his father's rule, local media reports, quoting a senior ruling party official.
Lee, the 52-year-old son of founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, and his ministers will likely head the long-ruling People's Action Party (PAP) and the country until nearly 2020, said Goh Chok Tong, who Lee replaced as prime minister in August
