RESIGNATION

My blogging may be light in the coming weeks. I've just resigned from my job so I'll be spending a fair bit of my free time polishing resumes and drafting cover letters. The rest of my time will still be spent at the office.

I'm still discussing a final departure date. But in order to give my soon-to-be-former employers time to find a suitable replacement it will be longer than the one month that is required. I'm possibly being a sap by doing that. After all, burning half a bridge essentially has the the same effect as burning the whole thing.

Lisa is not as displeased with me as I had expected. I had been mentioning that I was considering moving on to greener pastures, so she was expecting me to do something like this. She just would have preferred that I had lined up other work beforehand.

There were office politics involved in my decision, which I won't go into out of courtesy to those involved. However, that alone wouldn't have prompted me to quit were I happy with the work. I still believe it is possible to enjoy your job. Right now I need to find a place where I can again do that.

I have been thinking this way for quite a while, but I couldn't really garner the motivation I needed to start searching for new challenges. Basically, I just gave myself the proper kick in the arse that I needed.

I'll likely be remaining in Singapore until at least early 2005 and staying here after that would be convenient. Moving is always arduous and leaving friends is never pleasant. However, I have been here for five years and, deep down, I feel I've had my fill of the Lion City.

I won't speak ill of my time here. It has been very comfortable and this one of the easiest cities I have had the experience of living in. But its a big world and there are a lot of other places that I still want to experience as more than just a tourist.
