MANNY
With no disrespect intended to any of the Indonesians who were murdered in Thursday's bombing, we can be thankful that no Australians perished and that the death toll was so low. We can also pray that this remains the case.
One little girl may not make it.
Elisabeth Manuela Banbin Musu is the five-year-old daughter of an Australian father and a Balinese mother. She was critically injured in Thursday's bombing. Her mother, Maria Eva Kumalawati, was one of the nine people killed in the blast.
Elisabeth and Maria were going to the Australian Embassy to collect the little girl's first passport. Manny, as she was called, had become a naturalized Australian a little more than a week earlier. It should have been a happy day.
Today, I was going to write some of my reflections today on 9/11, and how I experienced it from abroad, but I won't do that now.Five-year-old Elisabeth Manuela Banbin Musu was going to collect her new Australian passport with her Indonesian mother on Thursday, but they never made it.
Three years ago, 3,000 people were murdered in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Today, another innocent may lose her life from a similar act of barbarity.
Its important to remember the dead and its important to reflect on what the war on terror is about.
But, with the remembrances today, please spare some time to pray for the living.
