PLUGS FOR FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES

There are a few folk out in the blogosphere I've had the pleasure of knowing before they were bloggers.

I met Casey in Korea - although only in a virtual sense on an expat mailing list. We spoke on the phone a couple of times - he helped me through a rather rough patch I was having as my visa expired and a job offer fell through. He's an education policy wonk at Cato now. Casey is one of the smartest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and is a marvelous and prolific writer. Go! Read! Enjoy! Bookmark!

Dups, one of my best friends, has an infrequently updated blog. The writing is mostly targeted at his friends. However, do check out the photography at his main site and his travelogue site for our recent trip to Kilimanjaro. I'm hoping to join him again for another mountain excursion in Peru at the end of this year.

Ron, who runs an infrequently updated blog, was a good friend of mine when I was working at the Memorial student radio station in the late-80s and early-90s. Our political views have diverged quite a bit since then, so if you agree with most of my rantings here you probably won't overly enjoy Ron's site. But he's a keen guy nevertheless – and I would enjoy a debate over some beers if our paths ever cross again in St. John's.

I met John back when I an editor at student newspaper the Muse. As an ex-Muser himself, he was wonderfully supportive of young journalists. He's still in my old St. John's east stomping ground working for CBC radio. His site is a nice collection of Newfoundlandia and related news.

And, as I've mentioned before, I did the same undergrad degree as Damian.
