IMPORTANT TEST

The US is currently twisting arms in order to get UN Security Council members to endorse 'sanctions' against Sudan for not acting to prevent the current genocide in the Darfur region.

As far as I know, sanctions have never before been used to try to prevent an active genocide campaign. So, should they be approved, this will be an important test of their effectiveness.

I'm betting they won't be particularly helpful.
