FUCKIN' DIE

Good news forwarded to me by a friend who is on Warren Ellis' e-mail list:
If you've got iTunes, you can pick up for 99 cents today "Bam Thwok", the first new song in 13 years by The Pixies.

I don't have iTunes, so I got someone to snag it for me. Guaranteed it'll be on KaZaA or Soulseek by now anyway.

It's not bad. I mean, it sounds like they came up with it in five minutes and recorded it in Joey Santiago's garage, but it's not bad. Half-formed, and, as Mer Yayanos pointed out to me when I played it for her, Frank Black's voice is just buried. But I like Kim Deal's voice, so what the hell.

But the guitars: all the sweet beautiful howling tones of early Pixies.

Sadly, I can't get iTunes here - and having just bought a snazzy new digital camera , I won't be buying an i-Pod anytime soon. Hopefully this won't be one of those Internet only exclusives. As a former vinyl junkie I prefer my music on a solid format.
