DAMIAN
It's my first day at this but after a bit of practice (six posts!!!) I feel comfortable enough to seek a 'celebrity' endorsement. So I made an offer to someone I know at "one of the top right-wing online pit stops for Canadians."
Hey Damian!
It's Chris Myrick. You may remember me from MUN - I was the long-haired Muse guy who shared many of your poli-sci classes and was possibly even some sort of survey group with you in one of Graeser's statistics courses.
I've been enjoying your blog for a few months now after being referred to it by either Mark Steyn or Tim Blair. Anyway, partly out ofthe jealousy I get when seeing someone I know gain a modicum of success in a field that I'm only remotely interested inrespect for your work, I"ve decided to launch my own blog. currently at http://www.myrick.blogspot.com
So, let's catch up. I'm still stuck in reporting as a career. I'm currently in Singapore after living for a while in South Korea and Kuwait. I've shifted slightly to the right economically since we last met - a natural evolution as I see it from an anarchist punk to a libertarian one (a youthful rebellious type of anti-statism to a more mature anti-statism) but I am pretty much still a social deviant. Well, actually, I generally limit my partying to the weekends and I've been living monogamously with the same woman for a decade - but we're unmarried, which some of my conservative friends regard as kinda' deviant.
Anyway, blogging on an unvisited website would be pretty pointless, so I figured I'd try to get a plug on your site in an effort to get some traffic and arguments directed my way. If it works, I'll even send you my copy of Road to Serfdom when I finish with it.
I got half-way through it about five years ago - but I put it away to read P.J. O'Rourke ... and then Steven King, Nick Hornby, Elmore Leonard and eventually anything else that wouldn't put me to sleep. Sure, Hayek is brilliant, but if I'm going to read something on my free time I want a little more entertainment and excitement. Nevertheless, I noticed it was on your Amazon wish list so I figured you may find the offer tempting.
Aw, screw it, if this works I'll send you my 'Road to Serfdom' before I finish it.
Best,
Chris
